ABOUT ME
Growing up, I would get so absorbed reading graphic novels that I wouldn't register my family trying to talk to me. Immersed in the stories, I soon found myself having read all of the comics circulating local libraries. I was enraptured by how visual storytelling can convey so much emotion and complexity.
I soon became deeply committed to a career in this field as I took art, animation, and film classes throughout high school. While I enjoyed them all, I wasn't sure which medium I wanted to pursue. During my senior year of high school, I created an animated short film entitled Abuela’s Cookbook, following a girl who is transported back in time when discovering her grandmother’s old recipe book. It was inspired by the story of my Spanish grandmother who immigrated to the U.S. as a young woman. Throughout 2025, the film went on to win two international film festivals and was an official selection for others. However, it was seeing how deeply audiences connected with the piece that made me realize my strengths; creating powerful stories that connect with audiences across cultures and generations.
Pursuing this direction, I decided to attend ArtCenter in the First Year Immersion program to better understand the majors and pathways that support my vision.
I am majoring in Illustration: Entertainment Arts because of its emphasis on visual narrative, cinematic storytelling, worldbuilding, and character design. I aim to pursue careers as an animated film director, visual development artist, and graphic novelist.
Through my experiences participating in the Fall 2025 Animation Jam and working in ArtCenter’s Student Government, I have grown as a collaborator and leader. Taking Illustration and First Year Immersion coursework in Perspective, Head and Hands, Drawing, and Visual Thinking 1 and 2, I have developed skills in narrative development, technical perspective, portraiture, drawing, and visual design. In my work, I draw from personal experiences and passions, family culture, and history. My curiosity and narrative-based approach aims to create visually and emotionally resonant imaginative worlds.
